The Village Voice's first publication was issued on Friday April 19th 2001. The first issue coincided with the launch of the Ballycumber Fair which celebrated it's tenth anniversary that year. The idea of the newsletter was to share information in the community as well as to publicise upcoming events. At the time, the issues cost just £1 per week. The first issue occurred during the Foot & Mouth Pandemic with tips on keeping safe.
19 years later; the 1000th issue of the Village Voice was published on Wednesday November 11th 2020.
How times have changed, the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March 2020 and the current publications continue to share local information as well as upcoming events in the locality. The issue currently costs €2 per week.
With a bumper Christmas edition; containing annual reports from all the clubs around the locality, as well as advertisements and promotions from local businesses.
The Village Voice is going into its 20th year and it's great to see something run thus far.
